SMCRF in collaboration with National Trust for Nature Conservation-Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project conducted five days training on small mammals identification and field survey techniques during 23-27 November 2023 at GCAP Office, Singati, Dolakha. Altogether, 18 participants from different institution, Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Zoology, Tri-chandra Multiple Campus, Balkumari college, Chitwan, Sukuna Multiple Campus, Biratchowk, Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus and Hetauda Campus, Kathmandu Forestry College, Kathmandu University, Agriculture and Forestry University, Hetauda Campus, College of Natural Resource Management, AFU, Katari and Goldengate International College including three staffs from GCAP were trained. Theoretical session was conducted during the morning and afternoon and practical sessions were conducted during the evening and morning. Theoretical sessions were focused on the taxonomy and field techniques such as identification, echolocation, diet, ecology, social aspects on small mammals including rodents, bats, lagomorphs and small carnivores. Practical session in the field included demonstration and practice on equipment use (Sherman trap, tube trap, mist netting, bat detectors, camera traps, transect walk, sign surveys, traps placements etc.), animal handling and release, data collection and preliminary analysis.
